News in brief:

Social Enterprise activity day

As part of Enterprise Week the whole school was out of school on Tuesday 18th November at either Montacute House or Tyntesfield. The weather was perfect and thanks to Caroline, staff and volunteers at Montacute, and Sophie, staff and volunteers at Tyntesfield, everyone enjoyed a good day of outdoor activities.

£10 Challenge

As part of Enterprise Week (17th - 21st Nov) each class was given a loan of £10 with which to make products, provide services or simply buy and sell, in order to make a profit. Parents and Uphill residents have also been helping and supporting this exciting new venture. The results were presented at a special assembly on the Friday. The total profit made was a staggering £353.67!  Of this £332.92 will be donated to the different charities chosen by each year group.

Yet another successful work experience

Year eleven all completed their second two week work experience placement from 10th to 21st November.

Jeans for Genes fundraising

On Friday 3 October pupils and staff were invited to make a £1 donation and wear jeans instead of trousers with their normal school uniform.  We raised £70 for 'Jeans for Genes' fundraising event.  Click on the logo for more information.

Visit to RAF Lyneham

A small group of staff and students visited RAF Lyneham on 1st October.  Thanks to the kind hospitality given at the base everyone had an enjoyable and informative day.

Ofsted inspection - "Outstanding" school!

On 13th February we had an Ofsted inspection.  Click on the links below to see report and press release.  Thank you to all the parents and carers who took the time and trouble to respond to the feedback questionnaire.  It was important that Ofsted knew what you think and feel about the education your children are receiving at Westhaven.

Specialist School status for Westhaven for

Business and Enterprise

We are now a Specialist School for Business and Enterprise.  This means that since September 2007, as well as continuing with our current provision, additional funding is available to extend this into new areas.

Healthy Schools Award

Westhaven - healthy school

Since achieving the Healthy Schools Award in 2007 we pride ourselves with being a school which encourages healthy living.

Thanks to everyone and please remember:

Pathfinder Trust School Status

Westhaven, with our partner school Worle, became a WW Trust School on 25th February 2008.  An event to formally launch the Trust was attended by guest speakers and staff from both schools at the Winter Gardens on 17 October.

Congratulations Mrs Moss!

On 24 June Mrs Moss became a Teaching Awards 2008 winner. She won the Royal Air Force Award for Headteacher of the Year in a Secondary School in West of England.  We are all delighted with this news - it gives her the recognition she deserves for all her hard work and dedication at Westhaven.

Congratulations to WeSMile!

WeSMile, Year 10's own business came away with the Team Programme Best Stand Award at the Young Enterprise Regional Finals in Cheltenham on 23rd June.

Sports day - Tyntesfield hold on to trophy

Congratulations once again to Tyntesfield house for retaining the Sue Slade Trophy.  The weather on the afternoon of 23rd July was glorious sunshine, all of the children gave their best performance, and attendance by parents was excellent!

Maths really is fun!

Parents were invited to come with their families for a one hour evening workshop on 'Improving Numeracy Skills' on 3rd July.

Westhaven win Gold medal

Our Year 10 garden building team won the Gold medal on 10/11th May at the Cannington College Wisteria Garden Competition
